Amoeba protozoan feeding. Light micrograph showing a single-celled Amoeba sp. (at left) engulfing another protozoan, Paramecium sp. (at lower center inside amoeba). The amoeba extended a pseudopodium (false foot) to attack its prey. The pseudopodium is formed from the flexible wall of the amoeba cell. The paramecium was engulfed and will be digested within a cavity (vacuole) inside the amoeba cell. This form of feeding is known as phagocytosis. Magnification: 43X
