HMS Jersey, 1777

The British Royal Navy ship HMS Jersey was turned into a hospital ship and docked at Wallabout Bay, New York (now the Brooklyn Navy Yard). During the American Revolution, it was used by the British as a prison ship for captured Continental Army soldiers. It was notorious for the miserable conditions in which the prisoners were kept.
