When the bladder fills, the stretching of its walls triggers the reflexive contraction of the detrusor urinal muscle and the involuntary relaxation of the internal vesical sphincter. Urination is delayed by intentionally contracting the external vesical sphincter. The contractions will then stop temporarily.
