Mercury Distillation, 16th Century

The distillation of quicksilver or mercury (refining), 16th century. By the 16th century, mercury was often used in medicine and in the amalgamation of gold and silver ores. In the 17th century, there was demand for mercury to use in thermometers, barometers, and electrical and chemical applications.
