WILLIAM II OF ENGLAND

William II called Rufus (the Red) (1056-1100), second surviving son of William I , king of England from 1087. Cruel and rapacious, he was an unpopular monarch.  He was killed by an arrow at Brokenhurst in the New Forest. Wood engraving c1900.
