Assassin Bug

The assassin bug (reduviidae) can deliver a painful bite and at least some species do produce a venom. They are predators of other small invertebrates. They use their long proboscis-like beak to feed on their prey. This individual was photographed on a night hike at the CICRA research centre, Madre de Dios, Peru.
