goblet, Zilverfabriek J.M. van Kempen en Zn, Voorschoten, 1858, silver, glass, Bowl and lid: 33.5 x 11.4cm 335 x 114mm, Bowl: 24.3 x 11.6cm 243 x 116mm, Lid: 9.5 x 11.4cm 95 x 114mm, diam. chalice: 10.4 cm / diam. base: 11.3 cm, crystal bowl with silver lid and silver base. The goblet has a hexagonal arched foot, which is decorated on top with engraving and gearing, depicting flower, leaf and ornamental motifs. The silver trunk is made up of a disc-shaped base nodule, a smooth stem and an inverted baluster-shaped knot. The chalice-shaped cup is made of thick glass and cut in six facets. Above that a slightly flared smooth edge. On one of the faces of the chalice is an oval wreath of leaf and bud motifs gathered in a ribbon at the bottom. Here is a text engraved in six lines under each other: HULDE to Mr. [slant] S. van der Paauw [slant] Leiden February 12, 1859. Parts of the text are decorated with curls. The silver lid with a floating rim is crowned by a bunch of grapes and two vine leaves. The edge of approximately three centimeters wide is driven with ornamental C-scrolls and rose and leaf motifs.
