Jason and Medea with the Golden Fleece. According to Greek mythology, the Golden Fleece is the fleece of the golden-woolled, winged ram, Chrysomallos, and is a symbol of authority and kingship. Jason and his crew of Argonauts, with the help of Medea, stole the golden fleece in order to place Jason rightfully on the throne of Iolcus in Thessaly. A Popular History of Greece, published 1887.
