Heavy-Footed Moa Skeleton

The moa (initially classed as genus Dinornis) is an extinct, flightless bird that was found in New Zealand. This skeleton is that of the Heavy-Footed Moa (Dinornis elephantopus, now reclassified as Pachyornis elephantopus). The Heavy-Footed Moa was discovered by W.B.D. Mantell at Awamoa, near Oamaru, and the bones were taken by him to England. English photographer Roger Fenton (1819-1869) photographed this specimen around 1855.
