Stem of Cannabis Plant

A transverse section of the stem of a mature marijuana (Cannabis sativa) plant from the top. This sample was take two cm from the growing tip. The section of the stem shows the different cell types. The central cavity has not yet developed in this location. Cannabis is also known as help, and is a source of strong fibers for clothing, paper, and rope. This fast growing plant shows promise for being a cheep source of fibers in the future. This image shows the stem that is 4 mm in diameter.
