Map of seven marshland townships, near Kings Lynn, co. Norfolk; Emneth, Walsoken, Walton, Walpole, Clenchwarton, Terrington St Clement and Terrington St John. It was probably commissioned by the government to distinguish rights of summer grazing on the Smeeth for the townships, which had formerly belonged to the Bishops of Ely, and from 1581 was owned by Elizabeth I and the Duke of Norfolk. It is the earliest surviving measured map of the region, and was probably intended for public display. England; circa 1582. Source: Add. 71126. Language: English.
