The Circus Maximus is an ancient Roman chariot racing stadium and mass entertainment venue located in Rome, Italy. The first and largest stadium in ancient Rome, 2,037 ft long and 387 ft wide, it could accommodate over 150,000 spectators. Circuses were venues for chariot races, horse races, and performances that commemorated important events of the empire were performed there.
