High-power RF radiation warning sign, Metromedia Center, Mt. Wilson, California, USA. High-power radio-frequency (RF) radiation such as that present near TV and radio broadcast towers can induce high currents in conductive objects, thus posing a strong shock or burn potential. US Federal agencies, Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), recognize health hazards associated with high-power RF radiation. FCC limits the RF power density to which humans can be exposed. OSHA limits the value of induced current in working environments and issued a number of regulations pertaining to RF radiation hazards. Shown here is a high RF energy area warning sign posted on the fence surrounding the Metromedia Center on Mt. Wilson. The facility serves the Greater Los Angeles area and has a number of broadcast towers and satellite antennas.
