Spanish War of Independence (1808-1814). "Burning of the sealed French paper in the main square of Manresa", 1895. Painting by Francesc Cuixart i Barjau (Berga, 1875-Manresa, 1927). On June 4, 1808 French soldiers under Schwart's command left Barcelona to punish the city of Manresa for burning sealed French paper which bored the seal of validity of the lieutenant general of the kingdom, Marshal Joachim Murat. It had been imposed for the entire territory by Napoleonic authority. Town Hall of Manresa. Province of Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain.
