The Duke of Edinburgh Admitted Honorary Freeman Of Cardiff -- The Lord Mayor of Cardiff, Alderman G. Llewellyn Ferrier presents the casket, seen on table to the Duke.Nearly 1,100 people gathered in the assembly rooms at the city hall when the Duke of Edinburgh was admitted as an Honorary freeman of Cardiff. The scroll of admission was handed to him in a casket made of teak in the shape of a sea chest, with rope handles and bound in gilded Brass. on one side were the Duke's Personal arms in enamel and silver, and on the other the arms of the City of Cardiff. The wood came form H.M.S. Ajax which tool part in the river plate action during the war and was broken up in South Wales Shipyard five years ago. December 02, 1954.
