Total Infibulation, Illustration

Illustration of total infibulation; labia majora are connected over the urethra and vaginal opening with only a small posterior opening left for urination and menstruation. Female infibulation, is considered Type III female genital mutilation by the World Health Organization. It is mostly practiced in northeastern Africa, particularly Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Somalia and Sudan. Although female genital mutilation has been outlawed or restricted in most of the countries in which it occurs, but the laws are poorly enforced.
