The Skazanie is a romance in Russian Church Slavonic, composed in the 15th century, relating the struggle of the Muscovian Grand Prince, Dmitri Donskoj (b. 1350, d. 1389), against his Tartar opponent, Mamai (d. 1380), the military commander of the Blue Horde and Golden Horde. The central focus is the battle of Kulikovo (1380) at which Mamai was routed.
