"It's Easy", Says Christine, With An Eye On Olympics. Schoolgirl Christine Wheeler, of Barking Abbey School, Essex who at 16 is a "possible" for Britain's Olympic team, has a 5ft. 6in. mark on the wall at home as an inspiration one day to achieve that height as a high jumper. Now British junior champion at 4ft 11in, Christine is developing her style from the scissors to the western roll - a style which should take her up nearer the mark on the wall and into the Olympic high-jump team. The British women's record is 5ft 3 3/3 ins. Picture shows: Christine Wheeler in action during practice at Motspur Park, London, today (Sunday). Watching her are her coach, Mr A.A. Gold, and Miss Dora Gardener, international high-jumper, who is also a likely candidate for Olympic representation. 14th March 1948.
