![relief on the stairway of the temple of eagles and jaguars at Chichen Itza, a pre-Columbian city built by the Maya people of the Terminal Classic period. Chichen Itza was a major focal point in the Northern Maya Lowlands from the Late Classic (c. AD 600-900), into the early portion of the Post classic period (c. AD 900-1200). The Great Ball Court was used for playing the Mesoamerican ballgame.
