Germany, State Brandenburg, district Uckermark, municipality Boitzenburger Land: ruined wall of the former church of Boitzenburg Monastery ruin. Boitzenburg monastery was donated, in 1271, by the three margraves (German: Markgrafen) Johann II, Otto IV and Konrad of Brandenburg with huge areas of land. It was erected in the same time, when famous nearby Chorin monastery was built. The monastery was a Cistercian nuns monastery. it closed 1536, in times of Lutheran reformation, due to the secularization. In 1538, Hans von Arnim, bailiff (German: Landvogt) of the Uckermark area, became new owner of the monastery and the monastery grounds. The noble von Arnim family remained owner, until 1945. During the Thirty Years`War (1618 - 1648), the monastery was totally destroyed, by Danish troops, in 1637.
