'Sandusky, the "Bay City", has spread out before it a lovely view...the bay with its gently-sloping shores and island - its river coming from the south and sweeping past the town, the peninsula opposite with its vineyard, and beyond, in the broad lake outside, the wine-islands, near and far, stretching one after the other, green, purple, a cloud, a speck, a mist, toward the Canada shore'.
